EMS SERVICES WEEK

May 16-22 is EMS Services Week in Montgomery.  The members of the Montgomery Emergency Medical Services team are all volunteers who are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They spend countless hours each year serving the public and also engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills.  We are fortunate to have such a strong and dedicated EMS team here in Montgomery.

The Montgomery Twp. Committee wished to recognize the value and the accomplishments of emergency medical services providers, especially Montgomery EMS, by designating Emergency Medical Services Week.  A proclamation will be read at the Township Committee meeting of May 7th.

It is also the time of Montgomery EMS's annual fundraising drive. Look for their fund drive flier to arrive in your mailbox early in May. If you can, show your support by sending a tax-deductible donation to Montgomery EMS in the envelope provided.  If you prefer making your donation via a credit card, you may donate online via PayPal.  You can do this by visiting mems47.org and click on the Donate button at the bottom of the page. All donations are greatly appreciated.

Free Health Management Workshops

Beginning May 28th

The Montgomery Township and Hillsborough Township Health Departments are partnering to offer a series of FREE workshops called "Take Control of Your Health":

  • "Take Control of Your Health" is an evidence-based Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) offered in your area.
  • The workshops are self-management education for adults aged 18+, with chronic health conditions like arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, asthma etc. People with more than one chronic condition may find the program especially helpful.
  • The target audience includes those with chronic diseases, their family, friend, spouse, and/or caregivers.
  • CDSMP is a series of weekly  2.5 hour  long classes for 6 weeks. Participants learn techniques for coping with the physical and psychological effects of chronic disease, and strategies for reducing symptoms and disability.
  • Among the proven benefits, participants report less pain, fatigue, and depression; more energy; better communication with their physicians; better overall health; and increased confidence that they can manage their health.

Thanks to funding from the National Association of County & City Health Officials, and from the New Jersey Department of Human Services, several Local Health Departments have come together to offer this program.  Hillsborough and Montgomery's Health Departments are proud to be partnering with the Mayor's Wellness Campaign for this effort.
