TB Reporter: Want to Go Solar in St. Pete?

Homeowners in this city are forming a solar co-op so that members can use their group buying power to get discounts on solar panels.

Based on the same principle as buying in bulk, co-op members use a competitive bidding process to select a single company to install systems on all of the participating homes. Each participant signs his or her own contract with the installer, but everyone gets the bulk discount. By going solar as a group members say they can save up to 20 percent off the cost of a solar system. Members also have the support of the group instead of navigating an often-complicated process alone.

The Weekly Challenger: The Woodson Museum will remain open

One of my two favorite days as mayor was the day we announced our intent to purchase the home of the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African-American History Museum in order to ensure the museum's operators could continue their important work at that location. The day we raised the museum's flag high above City Hall was another one of my favorite days. History was made. While some time has passed since those celebrations, my commitment to the museum remains as strong as ever.
