Tampa Bay Times: Veteran recruiter J.P. DuBuque named St. Petersburg's first EDC chief to bring jobs to the city
St. Petersburg is about to launch its first Economic Development Corp. dedicated to recruiting more and better jobs to the city, and this morning announced veteran corporate recruiter J.P. DuBuque as the EDC's first president.
The creation of an EDC comes as St. Petersburg's downtown enjoys a renaissance in cultural activities, restaurants, hotels and a boom in housing construction. What has lagged are significant business relocations and expansions, as well as a pipeline of quality jobs - key goals of the new EDC.

ABC Action News: St. Petersburg reaches milestone, creating first ever Economic Development Corp.
St. Petersburg reaching a business milestone by creating its own Economic Development Corp.
"St. Petersburg has had a competitive disadvantage," said Mayor Rick Kriseman.
But the city is playing catch up by opening its first ever EDC.
"It says that we're not willing to take the backseat to anybody any longer," he said.

Creative Loafing: Eat & do good: swah-rey anniversary fundraises for two causes
St. Petersburg dessert bar
swah-rey is turning 1. To celebrate the milestone, the Grand Central District sweets shop has fundraising events in store for its weekend-long anniversary party.
At 7 p.m. Friday, owners Leslie Ann and Gregg Ciccone - who highlight house-made desserts, coffee, craft beer and wine at swah-rey - will bring in local celebrities to act as guest bartenders for the night, which will benefit John Hopkins All Children's Hospital. A raffle for donated items from 12-plus area businesses and a silent auction are also planned.

10 News: St. Pete Fire throws block party
St. Petersburg firefighters will be firing up the grill on Saturday, October 15th. They're throwing a block party for residents at Fossil Park, 6635 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N.
"It's our 27th annual Fire Prevention Block Party," says St. Pete Fire's Lisa Brekke. "There's going to be lots of fun stuff for families. It's a free community event."
The block party runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and includes a fire truck display, police K9 demonstrations, Bayflight landing, bounce houses, face painting, and free food and drinks.

Patch: St. Petersburg Wastewater Treatment Plants to Host Open Houses, Public Tours
To inform St. Petersburg's citizens and provide education on the day-to-day operations at the city's wastewater treatment plants, open houses and public tours have been planned for two of the city's treatment facilities this Saturday, October 15. From 9 a.m. to noon, citizens are invited to view operations and ask questions at the Northwest Water Reclamation facility, 7500 26th Ave. N., or at the Northeast Water Reclamation facility, 1160 62nd Ave., N.E. Plant employees and other city staff members will be available to answer questions during the open houses.
